Australia’s sex regulator has warned that the drug Viagra could lead to erectile dysfunction if users stop taking the drug and if they have any symptoms.
The drug, which has been called a “progyny”, was approved by the Australian Drug Benefit in November 2012.
In February 2013, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved Viagra as a treatment for erectile dysfunction.
The MHRA’s guidance states that the drug should only be used when other treatments are not suitable or are not effective.
The approval was not supported by any evidence and was based on safety and efficacy.
In its letter, the agency warned users to continue taking the medication “until they have discussed the benefits of the drug with their doctor, discussed the risks and benefits of the treatment, and have discussed the possible effects on their health”.
Viagra was originally developed as a treatment for enlarged prostates.
The drug has been linked to high blood pressure in people who have high blood pressure in the arteries that supply the heart.
The drug has also been associated with a higher risk of erectile dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction in some men.
The MHRA has warned that Viagra is a potentially dangerous drug, which should only be used with caution to avoid causing side effects or risks.
A spokeswoman for the drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, said: “We encourage patients to report any adverse effects they experience to the appropriate MHRA and ask them to report any other medicines that they are taking, which could interact with Viagra, and should therefore not be taken as prescribed by a doctor.
“The MHRA’s advice is for the patients to take their risk factors and symptoms into account before prescribing Viagra.
“Patients should talk to their doctor if they have questions about the drug’s safety and suitability for their health.”
The warning was made in a submission to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The MHRA has previously said that the drug’s side effects, such as headaches and facial flushing, are unlikely to be serious.
The drug’s manufacturers are responsible for determining the risk of side effects and determining if the medication is safe.
The drug’s manufacturer has also been given an opportunity to provide information to health professionals about the possible effects of the drug on the body, the risks and side effects, and the possible benefits to both patients and the NHS.
The MHRA has received reports of side effects from many patients using the drug.
The drug, which has been referred to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for analysis, has been found to have significant adverse effects on the liver.
The manufacturer said that the risks are very small.
The MHRA’s warning was made in response to an assessment by the body’s medical regulator in January 2013.
In the report, the MHRA said that the drug had been shown to cause the following symptoms and adverse effects:
• Severe headaches, which are less frequent than previously reported;
• Headache, which may be severe and last for a longer time than previously reported;
• Fatigue;
• Swelling of the ankles and feet;
• A headache that may be severe and last for longer than previously reported.
The report said that although the drug is generally well tolerated, there were some mild side effects, such as headache or muscle aches. These symptoms were not reported in the medical record.
The MHRA said the drug had been found to have an “atypical”, low dose effect on the liver, which could lead to an increased risk of liver damage.
The MHRA said that the drug’s side effects were very rare and had not been reported in the medical record. It advised patients to report any adverse reactions they experience to the MHRA.
